(PRNEWS) SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 9, 2018 - Over the past several months, we've continued to voice our concerns about the growing epidemic of youth e-cigarette use. Our public statements have expectedly prompted responses from industry and public health stakeholders on ways they and the FDA can further address these concerning trends.

 But we've also been inundated by a number of people asking for help in their fight against nicotine addiction in children and young adults. We've heard from parents worried about their child's use of e-cigarettes, and asking for help for their child who they believe is already addicted to nicotine. Teens have also reached out following our public education campaign launch wanting information about how to quit their own use of e-cigarettes or how to get help for their friends.

Company will wind down 20 U.S. stores and 31 locations in Canada

To focus on its most profitable stores and improve the overall health of its store portfolio, the company will:

Committee to Protect Journalist 2018 Global Impunity Index spotlights countries where journalists are slain and their killers go free

(CPJ) November 3, 2018 - Impunity is entrenched in 14 nations, according to CPJ's 2018 Global Impunity Index, which ranks states with the worst records of prosecuting the killers of journalists.

Somalia tops the list for the fourth year in a row and two countries rejoin the list of offenders, including Afghanistan where a suicide attacker targeted a group of journalists in Kabul, killing nine. Colombia also reappeared on the ranks after a breakaway faction of a guerrilla group with alleged ties to drug trafficking kidnapped an Ecuadoran news crew near the border and murdered them in Colombian territory. Both nations had fallen off the index in recent years as violent conflict receded.

(NAIROBI) May 7, 2018 - Authorities in Burundi should immediately lift a six-month licensing suspension imposed on radio broadcasts of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Voice of America (VOA), the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. Burundi's National Communication Council (CNC), the media industry regulator, on May 4 accused the two stations of breaching the country's media laws and professional ethics and ordered the stations' licensing suspended, according to a statement from the regulator. A government agency that regulates telecommunication subsequently turned off their signals, according to media reports

International Press Freedom Awards go to imprisoned Cameroonian journalist, Mexican correspondent, Thai reporter, and Yemeni blogger

(BMLTV) New York, November 20, 2017 - Journalists from Cameroon, Mexico, Thailand, and Yemen were honored November 15^th  at the Committee to Protect Journalists' 27th annual International Press Freedom Awards for courageous work amid risks such as imprisonment, threats, and exile. 

 

The families of two recently murdered former International Press Freedom Awardees -- Pavel Sheremet of Ukraine, and Javier Valdez Cárdenas of Mexico -- also attended the event. The crowd of nearly 1,000 stood to honor the two journalists and their loved ones following a video tribute to their work and to CPJ’s efforts to combat impunity.

LOS ANGELES, March 18, 2017 - Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca was found guilty today of leading a conspiracy to obstruct justice by overseeing a scheme designed to impede a federal investigation into corruption and civil rights abuses at county jail facilities. Baca was also convicted of lying to federal investigators when he denied knowledge of key aspects of the obstruction plot.
